A Mantra for Health Care
I am my own healer. I have a radiant voice within that guides me. I can make decisions for myself. I can rely on others as needed, but at my discretion. It is my body, my health, my balance, and my responsibility to make right choices for myself. Right choices include working with competent health-care professionals when necessary, allowing friends and family to help as needed, and, above all, being true to my beliefs, with the wisdom and willingness to change as part of the path of healing.
-Rosemary Gladstar
Dr Denoon's Approach
Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct healthcare system that provides options for managing both acute and chronic healthcare concerns by combining conventional modern medical science with traditional knowledge and modalities. Dr Denoon deeply believes, as a pharmaceutical prescribing Naturopathic Doctor, in the AND in healthcare. Building the foundations of health, restoring form and function of the physiology, addressing dis-ease AND using medical interventions AND medications when necessary all while tending to the yearnings of our beings. She is guided by the Wise Woman approach to healthcare, a solid foundation in conventional modern medical science and strong relationship with the natural world and herbal medicine.
Though Dr Denoon treats most conditions, she has a practice focus for women going through the menopausal transition. From perimenopause (as early as 35 yrs old!) well into our Crone years, Dr Denoon recognizes that many women feel confused and unsure as to what is “normal” and what they can safely do to support this transition. Dr Denoon is committed to an up to date evidence based approach aimed at easing this biochemical and hormonal initiation into the second half of a woman's life. Using lifestyle medicine, herbal medicine and safely prescribing hormones when indicated, Dr Denoon's goal is to protect a woman's lean muscle mass, bone density, cardiovascular and brain health and to ease the struggle that comes from hot flashes, menstrual changes, mood irregularities, cognition changes and sleep disturbance.
During an appointment Dr Denoon is committed to providing the space and time to hear your thorough health history, your story, and what it is you are looking for guidance with. You can expect a lot of questions, possibly a focused physical exam, and a review of recent labs if indicated. She will take the time to compile achievable personalized recommendations, which may include updating lab work, pharmaceutical drugs, botanical medicine, reasonable diet and lifestyle recommendations, nutrient supplementation and/or a referral to an allied healthcare provider to improve your outcomes. What you WONT receive are diagnosis that don't exist, unattainable and unsustainable diets, anything that you cannot afford or didn't know you were going to be charged for, or wellness industry pseudoscience.
Dr Denoon long ago gave up the idea of 'fixing' anybody. She recognizes that you are your own authority when it comes to your body and with that comes responsibility and accountability. Her goals include educating you, working as 'docere', the teacher, so that you can make confident informed decisions for your healthcare needs. She will walk with you and support you along your healthcare path, make suggestions and recommendations along the way, but ultimately knows from experience, it is only you, the patient that can change YOUR life.
"It is more important to know what kind of person has a disease than to know what kind of disease a person has"
